Reading

Here's a list of books that I read this year:

Purple Hibiscus
Macbeth
Watch the Sky
The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian
Lord of the Flies

1. Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian is going well for me. I liked how Junior and Rowdy were together for the whole. It made me feel like I want a friend like him. But it all changed quickly when Junior was serious about going to Reardan for new school. Rowdy got really mad at him but Junior was very serious about his decision. It was so sad to see their relationship go bad even though they were together for a long time.

I also liked the part where he hits the leader with his book in the face. But I was surprised to see the leader acting so strange to him. The drawing on the book was engaging for the reader to read because its comical and funny. Also, the fact that the words were informal makes the reader think like it's written toward people who are close in terms of relationship.

2. I think Purple Hibiscus is an interesting novel to me so far. I liked how Papa's attitude toward Christianity is different than the attitude that Jaja makes toward Christianity. But I was confused when I read the scene where Papa gets annoyed of Jaja skipping the church because I was wondering why Papa forces Jaja to go to the church. But I can tell that Jaja is not a kind of person who are being lazy all the time when I read page 23. Jaja said, "We will take care of the baby; we will protect him"(23). It shows how Jaja is wanting to keep his responsibility to take care of the baby who will be born in October. This sentence changed the way I saw him compared to the way I saw him before reading this page.

Papa is also strict at other things too, not just about the religion. He stops his people from using certain words in public. But even though Papa is a strict person, he becomes abusive sometimes when he broke Mama's figurine. I, as a reader of Purple Hibiscus, feel scared of him a little. I think he is just too much about all the rules he make because it is making everyone uncomfortable in these situations. He shouldn't push people to follow all of them, but instead giving everyone a chance to have a space for them.

This year, I read many books that are sophisticated and appropriate enough for me to grow as a better reader. I learned to understand different ways to approach the main point of the books. All of the books I read were able to give me new strengths to understand the different types of writing while being being able to read them most of the time. The book that gave me the most strengths is either The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian or Macbeth because they gave me new perspectives to read the books in their own ways. The Absolutely True Diary of a Part Time Indian was not difficult but the story was complicated enough to write and discuss with other people. Macbeth was not easy at all but once I start to understand some of them, it was interesting.

Portrait of me as a writer now

I am a writer who tend to include tons of vague details that mess up the story even if I don't want to. The unnecessary things just come...
